This week I started a new book, 12 Years a Slave by Solomon Northup. I finished the first chapter today and I like what I've read so far. The true story really draws me in and its interesting to learn about experiences that I will probably never have. I think that I will like the rest of the book and learn from it as well. This seems like a great book to help me gain some perspective on what it was like to be a slave.
So far I've learned about Solomon's family history and gotten a taste for what the book will be about. I was really drawn in when Solomon said, "My object is to give a candid and truthful statement of facts: to repeat the story of my life, without exaggeration…” I will continue to read over this next week.
I saw this movie and jeez it impacted me so much and I thought about life back then and how bad it really was. I especially like how you say how you learn about experiences you will never have. And going back to the first sentence, we don't think about it because we don't experience it not a days.
